看来,我是离不开爵士了,Sax, Organ, 听了一段曼妙的lazy sunday afternoon type Jazz 之后,现在再听Seven Steps to Heaven. 是quicksteps 那种快四的节奏. 还好并不是失去了欣赏的机会,这次演奏并非在Syd Con而是在Tas Con. 在网上立刻搜索了这支乐队的名字,叫做Kelly Ottaway Quartet.似乎出去了tenor sax, organ 和drums 之外,还有vibraphone, 那轻松自如,跳跃般的乐曲正适合配一杯咖啡或下午茶.很希望这样的散漫无边可以延续,思绪可以如小鸟一样拍拍翅膀天南地北地飞翔.是否来过,是否走了,轻轻的薄纱般游乐于这人间.最最妙的是钢琴爵士,因为它有一种空中楼阁般的高雅,给悄皮的爵士乐增添了空灵感.为什么Jazz 和 Soul 是亲密无间的伙伴,我想正是因为他们都有的灵魂吧,一种独特的灵魂,跳动,随心所欲,不羁不绊的那一种.

KELLY OTTAWAY QUARTET

Kelly Ottaway, music lecturer in jazz and multimedia at the Tasmanian Conservatorium, is joined by Alistair Dobson on tenor saxophone, Randal Muir on organ and Steve Marskell on drums. Their jazzy program today includes Feldman’s Seven Steps to Heaven, Alistair Dobson’s Blues for Tuesday, along with one of Ottaway’s own compositions, Stuffin’ the Puffin’.

Kelly Ottaway is a lecturer at the Tasmanian Conservatorium and lectures in contemporary piano and keyboard, jazz theory and ensemble. He has been the recipient of two Arts Tasmania grants and a Musicians Union of Tasmania study scholarship, and won the 2006 Hobart Jazz Club Jack Duffy Award for an outstanding musician. Kelly was a finalist in the 2008 APRA/Mothership Orchestra Big Band Composition Competition and, although not taking first prize, has been gifted the opportunity to write and arrange for the Mothership Orchestra. Playing piano, keyboards and vibraphone, he has performed over more than ten years with leading Australian artists in jazz, funk and soul. His primary interests are jazz composition/arranging and leading his jazz nonet ‘Modern Operative’ along with co-leading 'Full-Tilt Recliner' as well as many other large ensemble projects. He holds a Bachelor of Music and Graduate Diploma of Music from the Tasmanian Conservatorium and has postgraduate qualifications in arranging through Berklee College USA.
